5 New Year’s resolution tips

Keep your resolutions and feel your best in 2026.

You’re working toward your New Year’s resolution … but how can you make it stick? If you’ve tried to be more active or eat healthier and haven’t had success yet, don’t give up! Try these five tips from Best Health®, our no-cost wellness program, to keep up with your goals in January and beyond.

Know your baseline.

If you’re feeling stuck, understanding your current health can help you move forward. Set SMART goals.

If your New Year’s resolution is too general or hard to track, SMART goals can help. “SMART” is an acronym that can give your resolution more structure and make it easier to achieve. Make sure your resolution is:

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Achievable
  • Relevant
  • Time-bound

Stay accountable.

Working toward your goal with a partner or a device can help you stay focused and motivated. Finding a workout buddy, joining a class or using an app to track your progress can help you move closer to your goal. Add variety.

Starting a routine can help you build consistency with your New Year’s resolution. Keep things fresh and exciting by introducing something new to your rotation.

Celebrate your wins.

Set milestones and check in with yourself regularly. Recognizing small wins is a great way to reset and refocus on your original resolution. When you reach one, it’s time to celebrate!

Ask yourself:

  • What’s changed in three months?
  • How do you feel after six months?
  • At nine months, what do you notice?

No matter how close you are to achieving your resolution, you deserve to celebrate your wins along the way.
