Special enrollment

Find out how to get high-quality and affordable coverage outside of open enrollment.

What is special enrollment?

If you need coverage outside of open enrollment, you may still be able to apply if you've had a qualifying event. In most cases, you have 60 days from the date of the event to enroll in a health plan.

You can apply for the plan of your choice directly through Sharp Health Plan. If you’re interested in receiving financial assistance, you can apply directly through Covered California®. Find out if you’re eligible here ➜

Qualifying life events include:

  • You had a baby or adopted a child
  • You got married
  • You exhausted your COBRA coverage
  • You lost coverage due to a divorce or legal separation

Here’s how to apply:

1

Choose a network.

Through our Performance and Premier networks, you can access award-winning doctors, hospitals, medical groups and much more. Both offer the same quality of care, but with different coverage to fit your needs and budget.

2

Choose a plan.

From lower copays to lower monthly payments, we have a plan for you. Our plans are designed to give you the flexibility you need at a price you like. If you are under 30, you may also choose a plan option called a Minimum Coverage plan.

3

Get a quote and apply.

Get a quote in five minutes with our helpful quote tool. Simply answer a few questions to receive a personalized plan recommendation and quote based on your unique needs. Once you're happy with your selection you can apply for coverage.

4

Verify your address.

If you have never enrolled in benefits with us before or are applying with a new home address, then we'll need to verify your address to make sure you live in our service area. Find out which documents you may need to provide.
