What you need to know about California Senate Bill 260.

California Senate Bill 260 (CA SB 260) requires Sharp Health Plan — and all other health plans — to share member contact information with Covered California when a member’s health coverage terminates. Covered California may use this information to help members whose health coverage has terminated to get new coverage. Below is important information you and your clientsand your employees should know.


What member information is Sharp Health Plan required to share with Covered California?

If a member terminates their coverage with Sharp Health Plan, we are required to share the following information with Covered California:

  • Subscriber name and the names of covered family members on their plan (ages 18 and older)
  • Contact information that includes their mailing address, phone number and email address
  • Date their Sharp Health Plan coverage ended
  • Their written and spoken language preferences

Can members opt out of this information sharing?

Yes. Members can opt out of Sharp Health Plan sharing their information with Covered California. They can do that by contacting our Customer Care department by June 9, 2022 at customer.service@sharp.com or 1-858-499-8300. We are available to assist members Monday through Friday from 8 am to 6 pm. If a member chooses to end their coverage with us, they will have another opportunity to opt out of this information sharing by contacting us within 10 days of the date printed on their coverage termination notice.

Can a brokeran employer opt out of this information sharing on the member’s behalf?

No. BrokersAn employer cannot opt out on the member’s behalf. Members who wish to opt out will need to contact Customer Care directly.

How will you notify members about this information sharing?

We are required to send a notification to our members each year about SB 260 and the opt out process. We are sending our annual SB 260 member notification this month to members who have not already opted out. This information is also included in our coverage termination letters, so members are given another opportunity to opt out before their information is shared with Covered California.
