Best Health member transforms health and lifestyle

From lowered cholesterol levels to words of wisdom, read their incredible story.


One Best Health® member found the motivation they needed to make positive lifestyle changes, after receiving concerning results from a routine health screening.

“After the results of my first in-person health screening at work, I was sent a link to a portal that had information about the coaching program available [through Sharp Health Plan’s Best Health Wellness program],” the member says. “Since some of my results were in the ‘high-risk’ category, I wanted to take advantage of the program.”

Celebrating health milestones as a team

"With the lifestyle change recommendations from my doctor and all of the tools, resources, and tips from Coach Michelle, I had a very strong support team to help me make some major strides in meeting my goal.”

A combination of actionable steps from the member’s doctor and support from their Best Health coach, Michelle, helped them to make noticeable health improvements.

“I feel like I have had many breakthroughs and accomplishments due to the awesome coaching sessions I've had with Michelle,” the member explains. “One of the more significant ones was reducing my bad cholesterol level by over a hundred points within three months’ time. With the lifestyle change recommendations from my doctor and all of the tools, resources, and tips from Coach Michelle, I had a very strong support team to help me make some major strides in meeting my goal.”

Exploring more tools to find success

The Best Health program offers five coaching session topics, and members can choose one or more options in any order.

“I went through several different programs with Michelle for losing weight, eating healthier, increasing physical activity, and stress management,” the member says. “Knowing that I had weekly appointments with her to share my wins and challenges helped keep me on track.”

During sessions, coaches offer encouragement and resources, so members can get the most out of their weekly calls.

“Michelle reinforced our discussions with a recap at the end and included my goals for the next week,” the member says. “During our conversations, she was an excellent listener. She also provided useful exercises, recommendations, and examples related to the topic, like deep breathing, relaxing, recipes and apps. She would send links to helpful articles related to topics we discussed, send motivational quotes, and was always cheerful and positive, which made me look forward to our next appointment. I place a high value on the coaching I received from Michelle, and with her help, I succeeded in many health areas.”

Knowing when to ask for help

“I have a positive disposition, but what I became more aware of about myself is that I truly put in effort to improve myself, and that I am not ashamed to ask for help.”

After a foot injury, the member knew it had affected their ability to achieve their health goals. Determination and a positive outlook made a difference during their recovery.

“I couldn’t walk and had to wear a boot for several months,” they say. “But, I decided I was going to find out how I could overcome this obstacle, and took steps to do so, including getting a knee scooter for mobility — which turned out to be not only helpful but fun!”

The member’s thoughtful planning and enthusiasm paid off and the process of healing from their injury led to a powerful realization.

Words of wisdom

For those who are just starting their healthy journeys, the member had this advice to share:

  • Make sure you set SMART (specific, measurable, achievable/attainable, relevant, and time-bound) goals.
  • Lifestyle changes are not easy, so remember to take baby steps, and be patient with yourself.
  • Break big goals into smaller goals and achieving those goals will make you feel more productive and motivated to continue. You’re part way there just by showing up! You got this!
