Specialty pharmacy update

Effective Jan. 1, 2027.

We are pleased to expand our partnership with Sharp Specialty Pharmacy Services (SSPS). Beginning Jan. 1, 2027, we will transition from CVS Specialty® Pharmacy to SSPS for specialty medications.1 This change will strengthen our specialty pharmacy services, enhance integration across the Sharp HealthCare delivery system and allow us to continue delivering high-quality, cost-effective coverage.

What this means for members

  • This change only applies to specialty medications for our Commercial Group and Individual and Family Plan lines of business.2
  • All other prescriptions will continue to be filled at any in-network pharmacy.

What members can expect

  • Members who filled a specialty medication within the past year — and their providers — will be notified within the next month, with a catch-up mailing scheduled for December.
  • Specialty prescriptions currently filled through CVS Specialty — including those picked up at CVS retail locations or delivered through CVS Specialty mail service — will be moved.
  • Specialty prescriptions with refills will be automatically transferred. Any prior authorizations will transfer with it. If there are no refills left, SSPS will contact the member’s provider for a new prescription.
  • To ensure a smooth transition, SSPS will contact members before their first fill in 2027 to review medications, arrange delivery or pickup and explain payment options. Pickups are available at 3558 Ruffin Road, Suite #101, San Diego, CA 92123, Monday – Saturday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
