Behavioral health
Children and teens have access to a broad range of mental health care – but their care is tailored to the needs and experiences of young people.
Kids ages 8 to 18 are eligible for a free behavioral health and wellness screening as part of their preventative care benefits every year. Ask your child’s pediatrician about a screening at their next wellness visit.
Children can also use the NeuroFlow digital emotional well-being self-care app. NeuroFlow has two programs specifically designed for children and teens:
- ThinkHero – For children ages 6 to 12
- ThinkWarrior – For teenagers ages 13 to 17
Both programs teach children about coping with anxiety through a series of nine, self-directed steps. Get the app for free from the Apple Store or Google Play Store.

After-hours pediatric care
When your child is sick or injured, you need to know someone will be there to help. If your plan medical group is Sharp Rees-Stealy, you can receive medical advice, after-hours pediatric care and urgent care services day and night.
Our pediatricians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and staff are ready to care for your family 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Coverage for adult children
Your child can be enrolled in Sharp Health Plan as a dependent on your plan until the last day of the month of their 26th birthday, regardless of whether or not they’re married, in school full or part time, or have already moved out. If your child
has "total disability" status, he or she can remain enrolled in Sharp Health Plan after their 26th birthday, too.

Your adult children can be covered, if all of the following is true:
- Up to age 26 (regardless of marital or student status)
- If they’re living with “Total Disability” status, they can remain enrolled after their 26th birthday
- If they’re living in the San Diego/Riverside area (certain exceptions may apply)
Out-of-state students
As long as your child retains a permanent residence in San Diego or Southern Riverside County, they can be covered by your plan until they’re 26 years old. If you are enrolled in an HMO plan, your child will be covered for emergency and urgent care
services while they are away at school.
Students get routine and preventive care services from doctors affiliated with their Plan Medical Group while they are back at home. If you are enrolled in a POS plan, your child may obtain care from any licensed provider, but the costs will be higher
when using out-of-network benefits.
