New small group underwriting guidelines

Key benefits and resources to support you and your clients.

If your clients work with Professional Employer Organizations (PEOs) or are small groups with five or more employees, we’ve got great news. We’ve updated our underwriting guidelines to make it even easier for them to enroll with Sharp Health Plan.

Benefits for clients

  • More choice and more affordability. Clients can get the most out of their health insurance by viewing plans that fit their needs.
  • Simplified filing. Those with five or more employees do not need to submit a DE-9C to Sharp Health Plan.
  • High-quality care and service. We’re proud to be the highest member-rated health plan in California1 and we were named the Best Insurance Provider in the 2021 Union-Tribune Readers Poll.2
  • Award-winning care. Clients have direct access to The Sharp Experience® and Sharp HealthCare’s nationally recognized doctors, medical groups and hospitals.

Small group participation

1-4 subscribers enrolled: Minimum of 60% participation, excluding any valid waivers.
5+ subscribers enrolled: Minimum of 25% participation, excluding any valid waivers.

Professional Employer Organizations (PEOs)

Sharp Health Plan may agree to treat individuals covered by a co-employment agreement with a PEO as eligible employees of a California group for purposes of issuing a contract and enrollment.
