Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the most common type of heart disease. The coronary arteries wrap around the heart and supply it with blood and oxygen. CAD occurs when fatty deposits called plaque build up inside and narrow the coronary arteries.
This can reduce the amount of blood that gets to your heart and lead to serious problems, including heart attack.
Typical symptoms include:
- Chest pain or discomfort (called angina)
- Shortness of breath
- Heart attack
