Heart disease

Use the three steps below to begin your journey to Best Health.

1. Know this

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the most common type of heart disease. The coronary arteries wrap around the heart and supply it with blood and oxygen. CAD occurs when fatty deposits called plaque build up inside and narrow the coronary arteries. This can reduce the amount of blood that gets to your heart and lead to serious problems, including heart attack.

Typical symptoms include:

  • Chest pain or discomfort (called angina)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Heart attack
2. Do this

Lifestyle changes are just one of the many things you can do to slow CAD and reduce your risk of future problems.

  • Lower your stress level.
  • Exercise regularly (daily if possible), your doctor can suggest a safe level of exercise for you
  • Eat a heart-healthy diet
