It's time to renew your health insurance

Renewing your health insurance is simple. Here are a few important things to remember.

We thank you for choosing Sharp Health Plan for your health coverage. Renewing your plan is simple. How to renew will vary depending on whether you purchase your health coverage directly from us or from Covered California. Here's what you should know.

Members who purchase directly from Sharp Health Plan

  • If you don't renew or change your insurance, you will be automatically renewed in the same health plan with coverage starting on January 1, 2018, as long as you remain eligible and your plan is still available. We'll renew your insurance using the most recent household size and income information on record.

  • If you pay your premium bill through Auto Pay, you will need to update your Auto Pay account on our online payment portal with your new 2018 premium amount before December 26. This will ensure accurate and timely premium payments and prevent any disruptions in your coverage.

  • Even after you have been automatically renewed, you can make changes to your health plan until December 15, 2017 for coverage beginning January 1, 2018.

  • The 2018 open enrollment period is from November 1, 2017 to January 31, 2018. If you want a different plan with coverage that starts on January 1, 2018, the deadline to make a change is December 15, 2017.

  • Remember: If you qualify for a premium tax credit, you can get those savings only if you enroll through Covered California®. Go to CoveredCA.com to see if you qualify. You can check to see if you qualify for a tax credit for 2018 even if you didn’t receive one in 2017.

Members who purchase via Covered California

  • If you don't renew or change your insurance, Covered California will automatically re-enroll you and members of your household in your current health plan with coverage starting on January 1, 2018, if you remain eligible and your plan is still available. Covered California will renew your insurance using the most recent household size and income information in your application.

  • You will continue to receive your monthly bill from Sharp Health Plan, as you have in the past. To keep your coverage, make sure to pay your premium directly to Sharp Health Plan by the due date so your coverage will continue on January 1, 2018.

  • Please do not send your payment to Covered California.

  • If you pay your premium bill through Auto Pay, you will need to update your Auto Pay account on our online payment portal with your new 2018 premium amount before December 26. This will ensure accurate and timely premium payments and prevent any disruptions in your coverage.

  • Your new premium starts in January 2018.

  • It is important to know that the amount of premium assistance you will receive in 2018 will be different based on changes in your household size, income, and the health insurance rates in your area.

  • To make sure you get the full savings you deserve, update your information with Covered California by visiting CoveredCA.com/Members/Renewal. This will make sure that you get the correct premium assistance and help to make sure that you will not owe money on your next tax return because your household size, income, or other eligibility information was different than you estimated.
