Preventive care services

Under the Affordable Care Act, certain preventive care benefits are covered at no cost. That means you’ll have a $0 copay when you access these services within your plan network.

Free preventive care services are available for members of all ages, including:

• Annual preventive physical exams, most immunizations and related laboratory services for infants, children and adults
• Routine gynecological exams, most immunizations and related laboratory services
• Health screenings, including breast cancer, cholesterol, cervical cancer and more

• TIP: When scheduling an appointment for a preventive care service, be specific that it is a “preventive care” visit so they know you shouldn’t be charged at the time of service. You can also download our free preventive care checklists and take them to your appointment. If medical symptoms, concerns or conditions are discussed at a preventive care visit, it could be considered a medical diagnosis or treatment and may require a copayment or deductible. You will need to schedule a separate office visit to address these issues.

After-Hours Nurse Advice

After-hours and on weekends, registered nurses are available to give health advice to you over the phone through Sharp Nurse Connection^®. Get answers to your questions about an illness or injury, learn more about when and where to seek care, and receive advice about other health concerns. Call 1-800-359-2002 from 5 pm – 8 am on weeknights and 24 hours on weekends.

If you need emergency medical care while traveling 100 miles or more away from home or in another country, Assist America^® can help. Get connected to doctors, hospitals, pharmacies and other service providers without authorization from your primary care physician. Call the Assist America hotline toll free at 1-800-872-1414 (outside the U.S., call 1-609-986-1234), download the Assist America mobile app or access the Assist America reference number by logging in to your Sharp Health Plan online account.
