$1 plans for unemployed Californians

Making high-quality coverage more accessible.

A provision of the American Rescue Plan Act allows eligible individuals, who received unemployment insurance benefits during 2021, to get great coverage through Covered California™ for as low as $1 per month.

What this means for you and your Sharp Health Plan clients

Eligible individuals can receive high-value coverage through Covered California’s Enhanced Silver 94 plan. Silver-tier plans offer cost-saving benefits, including low premiums, $5 copays for primary care provider visits and outpatient services that are not subject to a deductible, among others.

Californians who filed for unemployment benefits at any time during 2021 can check their eligibility using Covered California’s quick calculator. They must be enrolled on-exchange to qualify.

What your clients should know

Your on-exchange clients won’t need to do anything. If they qualify, Covered California will automatically move them to the Enhanced Silver 94 plan with the premium subsidy. Covered California and the Employment Development Department (EDD) will contact unemployment insurance recipients through their online accounts to let them know.

Your off-exchange clients can use Covered California’s quick calculator tool to check their eligibility online. If they qualify, they’ll have to re-enroll through Covered California. Eligible clients can continue to apply for coverage through the end of 2021.

New coverage starts on the first of the month

After a client applies, their new coverage will begin on the first day of the next month. Note: Application due dates are determined by Covered California.
