New member ID cards

Here’s what you need to know.


As a reminder, we are transitioning to a new a pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) effective Jan. 1, 2020. This transition will require us to mail new member ID cards to all Sharp Health Plan members in December. We will be communicating this to your employer clients next week.

New member ID cards will include a new, dedicated prescription helpline staffed by pharmacy experts who are available to assist members with questions 24/7. New cards will also include new pharmacy BIN and PCN information, which pharmacists use to process drug claims. Beginning Jan. 1, 2020, members must use their new cards when getting care and filling prescriptions.

Below are answers to some frequently asked questions about new member ID cards:

What is the new BIN and PCN information?

The new BIN and PCN information will be effective Jan. 1, 2020, and will be printed on the back of new member ID cards.

Will groups renewing in November or December get two new ID cards?

Depending on when your renewal is processed, groups renewing in November or December may receive two new member ID cards. Please contact your dedicated account management executive for details.


Will members currently using mail order need to update their BIN and PCN?

No. Members with existing CVS Caremark® Mail Service Pharmacy accounts will be automatically updated with their new BIN and PCN information in January.


Will members currently using specialty pharmacies need to update their BIN and PCN?

Members with existing CVS Specialty accounts will be automatically updated with their new BIN and PCN information in January. Members using a Sharp® Specialty Pharmacy will need to let their pharmacist know that they have new BIN and PCN information effective Jan. 1, 2020.
