As the result of a recent software update, Covered California changed the primary subscriber on members’ health insurance policies to match the person listed as the primary tax filer on their Covered California application. This change will not impact health coverage through Covered California.
The following changes will go into effect for impacted members starting January 1, 2020:
- New primary subscriber
The new primary subscriber will be the person who was listed as the primary tax filer on their Covered California application. The new primary subscriber will be the recipient of all official Sharp Health Plan and Covered California communications.
- New member ID card with new member ID number
The new primary subscriber, and any dependents enrolled in benefits under their health insurance policy, will be assigned new member ID numbers with new ID cards. To ensure the best member experience, members must show their new member ID cards with their new member ID numbers when accessing care and filling prescriptions.
- New automatic payment profile
Impacted members who use automatic payments online will need to log into sharphealthplan.com/payment and update their profile by (1) deleting any existing payments that were set up with their old ID number, and (2) adding a new subscription with their new member ID number.
We will notify your impacted member clients by mail, to the current primary subscriber listed on their policy. New member ID cards will be mailed separately, and will arrive by the end of December. In January, we will also be doing phone outreach to impacted members to remind them to show their new member ID cards when accessing care and filling prescriptions.
Please note that Covered California and Sharp Health Plan do not have the ability to change the primary subscriber back. If you would like to get a list of your member clients who are impacted, please contact your dedicated account management executive.
